Arunachal Pradesh “land of the dawn-lit mountains" also known as "land of the rising sun" is situated in the North-Eastern India. Inhabited by 26 major tribes it attained its statehood on 20th February 1987 bordering with Bhutan to the west, China to the north and north-east and Myanmar to the east. It stretches from snow-capped mountains in the north to the plains of Brahmaputra valley in the south.

 
Arunachal Pradesh has two highways, the 336 km National Highway 52 which connects Jonai with Dirak, and another highway, which connects Tezpur in Assam with Tawang.
Average rainfall of above 3000 mm per year and climate variation from the sub – tropical in the south to Alpine in the north.

Arunachal Pradesh is endowed with thick evergreen forests covering more than 80 percent of its total area and has five major rivers- Kameng, Subansiri , Lohit , Siang and Tirap winding their way through the sylvan hills.

Arunachal Pradesh has 12 tourist circuits across 83,500 sq. Km. Each tourist circuit is distinctive in character with different ethnic culture, topography and vegetation .

How to reach Arunachal Pradesh?

By Air
There are no flight services to Arunachal Pradesh. The nearest airport to Itanagar is Lilabari in Assam, which receives flights from Guwahati. The distance between Lilabari airport and Itanagar can be covered in two hours by bus or a taxi.

By Air
The nearest railhead is Harmuty, 33km from Itanagar but the most convenient disembarkation point is North Lakhimpur, some 60km distance from Itanagar.

By Road
One can drive to Itanagar and Naharlugan from neighbouring Assam and Meghalaya.

From Guwahati you can also reach Bhalukpong the entry point for Arunachal Pradesh in about 5-6 hours

Places to Visit

Tawang Moanstery – The 400 year old Twang Monastery overlooking the Tawang Chhu valley is distinct with Yellow roofs and white walls. It also has a craft centre where you can pick up carpets and other artefacts

Urgelling Monastery – This 500 year old monastery is situated at about 5 km from Tawang Town. This retreat is the birthplace of the sixth Dalai Lama.

Pankang Teng Tso Lake (PT tso) – The lake is about 17 km from Tawang

Sangetser Lake -  This lake was formed during the 1950 earth quake when mountain came down and blocked a part of the river. The lake is on the way to Taktsang Gompa.

Taktsang Gompa – This is one of the oldest monasteries in Twang and half and hour from Sangetser lake and situated on a cliff edge overlooking the winding roads of Zimithang.
