Goa - sun, sand and the beach

Goa is India's smallest state by area located on India's west coast in the region known as the Konkan, bounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast.

Panaji is the state's capital, while Vasco da Gama is the largest city. The historic city of Margao still exhibits the cultural influence of the Portuguese. The architecture of Goa is also a combination of Indian, Mughal and Portuguese styles. The state is divided into two districts: North Goa and South Goa. Panaji  the capital of Goa is also the headquarters of the North Goa district while  Margao is the headquarter of the south district.
 

Goa's main rivers are the Mandovi, the Zuari, the Terekhol, Chapora River and the Sal. The Mormugao harbour on the mouth of the River Zuari is one of the best natural harbours in South Asia. The Zuari and the Mandovi are the lifelines of Goa.

From north to south, the Goa coastline is marked by a number of beach towns, with relaxed ambience, seafood and water sports such as wind surfing, water skiing, sailing, water-scooters, and dolphin spotting cruises. The beaches of Calangute and Baga are the most visited while other famous beaches include Arambol, Anjuna, Candolim, Colva and Palolem.

Basilica of Bom Jesus

Basilica of Bom Jesus a UNESCO World Heritage site contains the tomb and mortal remains of St Francis Xavier who was on a mission to spread Christianity in the Portuguese colonies of the East.  The church is located in Old Goa, which was the capital of Goa in the early days of Portuguese rule. The Professed House is next to the basilica and is a two-storeyed laterite building covered with lime plaster.

Goa State Museum

This is near the bus stand in Panaji. (Open from Mondays to Fridays). It has a collection of Christian art and Hindu and Jain sculpture and Indian paintings of different styles.

Anuna Flea Market

Anjuna is known throughout North Goa and to travellers from all over the world for its flea market at the Beach (Wednesdays), where one can find anything from Indian souvenirs to Trance music.

Dudhsagar Falls

 Dudhsagar (literally meaning The Sea of Milk) is a tiered waterfall located on the Mandovi River in the state of Goa, India, on Goa's border with the state of Karnataka. It is 60 km from Panaji. A one-day trip from Margao, you can get to the Falls and back to Margao by late afternoon.
 

Shri Mangesh Temple

This 400 year old temple dedicated to Lord Mangueshi, an incarnation of Lord Shiva is located at Mangeshim in Priol, Ponda Taluka about one kilometer from Mardol close to Nagueshi, 22 km from Panaji and 26 km from Margao.

Naval Aviation Museum 

The Aviation museum is the only one of its kind in the whole of India located in Bogmalo, 6km from Vasco da Gama, Goa, India. This museum contains exhibits that show the evolution of India's Naval and Aviation forces over the decades.

Entertainment vessels in GOA. These are unbeatable when it comes to sophistication and style. These vessels operate over the Mandovi river.

The National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) is also located in Goa at Dona Paula.
