DAMAN

Daman district is one of the two districts of the union territory of Daman and Diu on the western coast of India, surrounded by Valsad District of Gujarat on the north, east and south and the Arabian Sea to the west.

How to Reach Daman?

By Road

Vapi station, 12 km. east, is the main access point for Daman. Vapi on the main Delhi-Mumbai and Ahmedabad-Mumbai western Railway main broad-gauge line is very well linked to all parts of the country through Ahmedabad in Gujarat and Mumbai.

Mumbai is about 170 km. and Surat is about 90 km. from Vapi.

From Vapi a road leads to Silvassa (20 km), the capital of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Nearest Railway Station - Vapi(10kms), Valsad(34kms), Umbergaon(40kms)

Daman beaches (except Jhampore) are dark and rocky and not suitable for swimming.

Sightseeing in Daman

St. Jerome Fort - The St. Jerome Fort offers views of the colourful fishing fleet. This fort on the northern banks encloses a church and cemetery with still a few cannons on the walls. The nearby bridge often tumbles in monsoon season. The fort has a magnificent gateway facing the river to impress incoming traffic. The Church of Our Lady of the Sea inside the walls is worth visiting place inside the fort.

Old Fort - The Old Fort contains the ruins of a monastery, Governor's Palace, barracks, hospital and two churches. The eastern side has a moat and drawbridge.

Jampore Beach - Jampore beach 3 km south of Moti Daman and 7.1 km from the Daman airport is located near Nani Daman and is one the few black sand beaches in India. The beach is clean and is not crowded.

Church of Bom Jesus - The Church of Bom Jesus was built in 1603 and is a piece of Iberia in India, with elaborate woodcarving.

Devka Beach - Devka beach is a popular beach front in Daman where a lot of beach front hotels and restaurants are located. Beach here is dark in color and very touristy.

Other places are Our Lady of Sea Church; Our Lady of Remedios Church; Forts of Moti Daman and Nani Daman; Public Garden and Moti Daman Jetty, Pargola Garden, Moti Daman, Amusement Park, Devka; Damanganga Tourist Complex, Kachigam; Satya Sagar Udyan, Mirasol Garden, Mirasal Water Park.
