Jaipur also popularly known as the 'Pink City', is the capital of Rajasthan and gateway to the desert state of Rajasthan. The city was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber in 1727. The old Jaipur painted in Pink can grip any visitor with admiration. Stunning backdrop of ancient forts: Nahargarh, Amer, Jaigarh and Moti Doongari are apt testimonials of the bygone era and a reminder of their lingering romance and chivalry.

Sanganer Airport at a distance of 10 km from the city center serves both domestic as well as international flights.


By Train
Jaipur is well connected to all major cities. The Shatabdi Express and the Pink City Express provides excellent connection and takes about 5 hours from Delhi.

City Palace and Museum - In the heart of the old city is former royal residence built in a blend of the Rajasthani and Mughal styles. The carved arches are supported by grey-white marble columns ornate with floral motifs in gold and colored stones. Two carved elephants in marble guard the entrance. The retainers whose families have served generations of rulers serve as guides.

The palace houses a museum with a superb collection of Rajasthani costumes and armory of Mughals and Rajputs. The palace also has an art gallery with an excellent collection of miniature paintings, carpets, royal paraphernalia and rare astronomical works in Arabic, Persian, Latin and Sanskrit.

Albert Hall - Located in the middle of Ram Niwas Garden of Jaipur, Albert Hall was built to commemorate and honors the visit of Prince of Wales to Jaipur. Designed in Indo-Sarcenic style, the hall was completed in 1876. It was opened in 1887 as a public museum.

 

Hawa Mahal - The Hawa Mahal, or the " Palace of Wind" built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799 A.D. is characterized by elaborate and fanciful architecture.
 

Amber Fort - Amber Fort is located in Amber (Jaipur), which used to be the capital of the Kachhwaha clan, till Jaipur was made the official capital in 1727. The Amber Fort looks stunning, all-built in white marble and red sandstone.

 

Laxmi Narayan Temple - Birla Temple forms one of the major attractions of Jaipur. Birla Temple of Jaipur looks stunning, when it is brightly lit in the night. Birla Mandir, in pure white marble, dominates the skyline of southern part of Jaipur.. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Narayan), the preserver and his consort Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. Due to this reason, Birla Temple is also known as Laxmi Narayan Temple. The temple was built by Birla foundation.
 

Jantar Mantar Observatory - A stone observatory. Largest of Jai Singh's five remarkable observatories. Its complex instruments, whose setting and shapes are scientifically designed, represent the high points of medieval Indian astronomy.

 

Nahargarh Fort - The word Nahargarh means the abode of tigers Built around 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Nahargarh Fort also known by Tiger Fort lies 6 km north west of the City Palace and provides some stunning views of Jaipur down below to the Man Sagar Lake.The view of the city from the fort is breath taking. Along with Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort it formed a strong defense ring for the city. During the Sepoy revolt of 1857, Nahagarh served as a refuge for Europeans fleeing from the havoc created by mutineers in neighboring states. The rooms are linked by corridors and still have some delicate frescos. There were nine apartments for the nine queens the Maharaja had and all were well planned and decorated. Nahargarh was the Hunting residence of the Maharajas

 

Gaitor - Gaitor is about 15 kms. from Jaipur and is famous for the cenotaphs or chhatris of Jaipur rulers, with the exception of Sawai Ishwari Singh’s. The cenotaph of Sawai jai Singh II stands out for its delicate carvings and beautiful shape. The cenotaphs of all Jaipur rulers, with the exception of Sawai Ishwari Singh who was cremated outside the Jai Niwas Garden were built at this place. All the chattris are covered with bas-relief depicting the tastes of the person it commemorates. There are memorials to the queens in the Maharani-ki-Chhatri complex near the Ramgarh road crossing. The white marble cenotaph of Maharajah Jai Singh II is the most impressive which is decorated with carved peacocks.
 

Jal Mahal - Jal Mahal of Jaipur is a pleasure palace built in the 18th century. Situated amidst the picturesque Mansagar Lake, the palace has the Nahargarh hills forming its backdrop. Jaipur Jal Mahal Palace is an architectural beauty and was meant to be used for the royal duck shooting parties. Developed as an enjoyment spot, it is entered through a causeway situated in the middle of Mansagar Lake. Jal Mahal of Jaipur, Rajasthan is a five-story palace, with the first four floors being submerged under water.

 

Kanak Vrindavan Valley - Kanak Vrindavan Valley is an exotic place in the desert lands of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Kanak Vrindavan is situated in the bottom of Nahargarh hills adjoining the Amber Fort, on Jaipur-Amber Road. According to past records, the beautiful green valley was labeled as Kanak Vrindavan Valley by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, almost 280-years ago. Kanak valley is encircled by Aravalli ranges and looks amazing from all the three forts of Jaipur.

Johari Bazar - Jaipur is a major center of jewelry production, and is especially known for precious, semi-precious stones and traditionally designed jewelry. The best place to purchase them is at Johari Bazaar, the jeweler's market of the city.

 

Jaipur Literature Festival 

Jaipur Literature festival is the largest literary festival in Asia-Pacific, and the most prestigious celebration of national and international literature to be held in Jaipur. The Diggi Palace Hotel serves as the main venue of the festival and  is held  during the month of January.
