Nainital situated at an altitude of 2,084 metres (6,837 ft) above sea level is a popular hill station in Uttarakhand and headquarters of Nainital district in the Kumaon foothills of the outer Himalayas surrounded by Naina (2,615 m) on the north, Deopatha (2,438 m) on the west, and Ayarpatha (2,278 m) on the south.
Nainital earned its name from the Naini lake situated in the heart of the city. The northern end of the lake is called Mallital, while the southern one is called Tallital.

Naini Devi Temple - The temple is located on the northern shore of Naini lake. The presiding deity of the temple is Maa Naina Devi represented by two Netras or eyes. Flanking Naina Devi are the deities of Mata Kali and Lord Ganesha.


St. John's Church - St. John in the Wilderness, a church established in 1844 is located on the north end of town (Mallital), about half a mile north-west of the Naina Devi temple.
 

Naini Peak - Naini Peak at a distance of 6 km from the north end of the town is the highest peak in the town, with an altitude of 2,615 m from where one can have a panoramic view of Nainital. A view of Nainital town from Naina Peak.

 

Bhimtal Lake - Bhimtal Lake is the biggest lake of Nainital is at a distance of 22 km from the city center. It is named after the second Pandava brother Bhima of the Mahābhārata . There is also a 17th century temple complex, the Bhimeshwar, alongside a 40 ft high dam at one end of the lake.
 

Mukteshwar - Muteshwar at a height of 2,286 m (7,500 ft) is a picturesque town 52 km north-east of Nainital. It is also home to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute. Mukteshwar also offers an unhindered view of Nanda Devi, Trisul, and Nanda Kot.

 

Naukuchia Tal - Naukuchia Tal, literally, Nine-Cornered Lake, is 26 km from Nainital and 4 km from Bhimtal at an altitude of 4,000 ft. The lake is almost 1 km long and half a km wide.

 

Land’s End - The main attraction of Land’s End is the beautiful view of the stagnant water of the Khurpatal. Land’s End is set at an elevation of 2,120mts above sea level offering splendid views of neighboring hills and the green valley with rural houses. In order to reach Land’s End one can drive to Barapathar on a vehicle and then trek 1km to the spot where one feels like the land has really come to an end.

 

Sattal - Satttal is literally a cluster of seven interconnected Lakes in the midst of an old oak forest, at a distance of about 23 km from Nainital. On approaching Sattal, the first lake encountered is the Nal-Damyanti Lake; next it is the Panna or Garude lake; and finally there is a cluster of three lakes: Ram, Laxman, and Sita lakes.


Khurpa Tal - Khurpa Tal is at a distance of 10 km from Nainital at an altitude of about 5300 ft surrounded by terraced farms.


Hanumangarh - It is located at an 6,401 ft at a distance of 3.5 km from Tallital. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Hanuman.

 

Tiffin Top – Tiffin top is also known as Dorothy's Seat. This terraced hill top on Ayarpatta hill is at a distance of 4 km from the town centre and commands a panoramic view of the country side

 

Aerial Ropeway - The Aerial Ropeway commences at Mallital and is connected with Snow view point offers the majestic views of Himalayan range.

 

Pt. G.B. Pant Zoo - Opened in 1994, it is one of the two High altitude Zoo’s in India, the second one being in Darjeeling.

 

Pangot - Pangot is a small Himalayan village situated 15 kilometers from Nainital, a very quaint settlement of the local Kumaoni hill folk. The drive takes only 25 minutes to get there from Nainital. The entire drive is through the forested area of Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury. These is the habitat for excellent bird watching.

 

Jeolikot - Jeolikot is perched at an elevation of 1,219mts above sea level at a distance 18kms from Kathgodam Railway station. It is situated on the road that connects Nainital with Kathgodam.
 

Governor’s House (Raj Bhawan) - Governor’s House was built in 1899 and designed in the Victorian Gothic domestic style by the architect F.W. Stevens as the summer residence of the governor of North West Province. Presently, Raj Bhawan is the official guest house for the governor of Uttarakhand.
