White water rafting - Adrenaline Rush

Rafting or white water rafting is a challenging recreational outdoor activity using an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other bodies of water.

Rafting is a white water sport. The term "white water" refers to foamy and whitish appearance of fast flowing water. The icy heights of the Himalayas are the source of some of India's mighty rivers. Fed by innumerable streams they race along tortuous boulder strewn beds, cutting deep gorges and breaking into silvery white rapids.  The white water river rafting is quite thrilling and adventurous. With the intricate network of mountain rivers flowing through a myriad of different colors of rocky Gorges, forests, flowers and high mountain villages, the hills provide ideal locales for the perfect water adventure.

The sport of white water river rafting calls for a triumph over the swift, swirling river as it gushes past spectacular mountains. It is practiced mainly in the upper reaches where the water is wild and white as it froths and foams, crashing against narrow gorges, rocky outcrops and falls at deep gradients. The suitable period for river running depends on the adequacy of water volume.

The rivers in the upper Himalayas are among the best in the world for river rafting sports, with many staircase rapids that challenge the body and spirit of the river runner. The river cuts against the rocky banks, crash into rocks, crevices and breaking into white water rapids, foaming, swirling, and falling in a thunderous din/

Grades of white water rafting / Grading of Rapids

Grade 1: Very small rough areas, might require slight maneuvering. ( Very Basic)
Grade 2: Some rough water, maybe some rocks, might require some maneuvering
Grade 3: Whitewater, small waves, maybe a small drop, but no considerable danger. May require significant maneuvering.
Grade 4: Whitewater, medium waves, maybe rocks, maybe a considerable drop, sharp maneuvers may be needed.
Grade 5: Whitewater, large waves, large volume, possibility of large rocks and hazards, possibility of a large drop, requires precise maneuvering
Grade 6: Class 6 rapids are considered to be so dangerous as to be effectively un-navigable on a reliably safe basis.

River running is usually organized early in the morning until mid or late afternoon after which the camp is set up on some secluded area on the banks.
